Tuesday Update – Asia

OUR theme today is continental and based around Asia. Our specimens take you on a journey from the plains and mountains of Kazakhstan, through the Himalaya’s to the gem region of Myanmar and into Thailand and Malaysia. Then northwards we cross China to far eastern Russia and into Japan too.

In world sporting news, here in the UK both Tom’s (Costes and Cotterell) are happy, as Belgium and England have both progressed to the Quarter Finals of the FIFA World Cup, but sadly Stew will have to wait to see his beloved USA hold aloft the famous trophy.

In reality, Tom (1) doesn’t really care much for football, and so most of our East Coker showroom staff are rooting for England. For anyone who is not familiar with football, or the England team, their fans have been long-suffering, teased since their last success in 1966 with countless ‘Golden Generations’ of players the envy of the world, but who always fail to deliver under the pressure of the greatest stage. This tournament was shaping to be no different, but in the recent match against Mexico I think we all saw a passion and desire to win against all the odds and so there is now newfound hope, hope that maybe the shackles have been released and the handbrake taken off, but we will see.

In that vein, next week will be an English update and, coincidentally, Saturday and Sunday (July 18-19) are the North Pennines Mineral Expo held in St John’s Chapel in Weardale, just a few miles from our UK Mining Ventures’ mines. Ian and Diana will be there, presenting a superb selection of British classics, recent Fluorite finds from Diana Maria mine and jewellery from the Viridis Gems range.
