At 14.5 cm across in its widest dimension this is a huge individual, or should I say twinned Fluorite crystal from the famous pegmatites at Nagar in the Hunza Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Off-matrix, and with just a few platy crystals of Muscovite mica embedded in its rear, the excellent translucency of this colourless to pale green, spinel twin cubo-octahedral crystal can really be appreciated. The back of the crystal is uneven, where it was removed from its host rock, but the front faces are in fine condition with really nice shape to them considering its size. Its stepped, somewhat bevelled edges are particularly noteworthy. Usually, the larger a crystal becomes, the more it loses its perfection in form, but this is a really great shape. There is one minor area of contact to be seen, on one upper corner, but the corner is not missing, but shows internal cleavage planes. Its green colour comes from a pale sea-green core with colourless edges. The sheer size of this crystal is really unusual for the Nagar pegmatites, and its size makes it stand out on display, hence why it was illustrated as Figure 143 in Arvid Pasto's book, Collector's Guide to Fluorite. Ex Arvid Pasto Collection, no. AEP1163.
