The glossy lustre, and stunning perfection of these Cassiterite crystals from the remote Ximeng Sn deposit in far southwest China is remarkable. Added to that, their position, sat upon a contrasting creamy-white Quartz matrix makes this a world-class specimen. The largest crystal, a twin, reaches 2 cm across with several single crystals reaching 1 cm in size. Superficially black, these crystals are actually very dark brown and are translucent, with gemmy edges and are in stunning condition. Well-known for the gemmiest Cassiterite crystals in China, most specimens seen from Ximeng Sn deposit were collected during the 1990s. This particular specimen is outstanding and holds its own against some of the world's most aesthetically pleasing Cassiterite specimens. It is from the superb collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
