Perhaps not as attractive as some crystallized Scheelite specimens, this interesting specimen is more of historical and geological significance. It comes from the Kramat Pulai mine in Kinta District, Perak, Malaysia which started in about 1908 as a tin mine, switching to tungsten in the 1930s, following the discovery of a rich vein of Scheelite. Eventually closing in 1970, the mine is now buried under tailings. Its significance as a mine is in the richness of its Scheelite as a ore and the unusual opaque white appearance of Scheelite rather than the more traditional cream to amber colour seen elsewhere. As an ore, very few specimens of the Scheelite were preserved, other than a few in museums, making this crystallized aggregate quite special. Displaying a crude octahedral form, the largest Scheelite crystal reaches 3 x 3.2 cm across. A fine and rare historic Malaysian Scheelite. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 352.
