A 5.5 cm tall, glossy, black, prismatic Quartz crystal with two small terminated crystals angled off around its base is lightly sprinkled with extremely gemmy, vibrant orange, transparent Spessartine garnet crystals, the largest reaching 7 mm across. It is from the famous Spessartine occurrence at Wushan Spessartine mine, Tongbei, Fujian Province, China and from the front display direction looks really fine, although from the rear it can be seen that although the main Quartz crystal is undamaged it is deformed from where another crystal once cut across it during its growth. The contrast between black and orange is excellent and very showy, and infact the Smoky Quartz is so dark as to be almost the variety Morion. A small granite core at the base of the Quartz crystals shows the original matrix.
