Detailed information
Grey boulangerite-included Calcite is a well-known feature of the mineralogy at Herja mine, Baia Mare, Maramureș, Romania and occasionally produces fascinating display-quality specimens, but this 'egg' must surely surpass them all. I liken it to a Fabergé egg. Yes, it is a little less jewel-encrusted, but its design (by nature of course) is remarkable, with the perfect contrast between light and dark, presented vertically on either half of the Calcite 'egg'. The join between the two sides is perfectly delineated by a line of cream coloured crystals - possibly Siderite - and the surfaces of the are encrusted in bladed flattened rhombic crystals, cream on one half and grey on the other. In exceptional all-round condition this is a mineralogical masterpiece that is sure to catch the attention of anyone viewing it - mineral collector, or otherwise.
