Wheal Hamblyn, near Bridestowe, Devon. Please note, this enigmatic mine has two spellings of almost equal association with the locality: 'Hamblyn' according to F. W. Rudler and 'Hamlyn' reported by A.K. Hamilton Jenkin. Unfortunately, this mine is not recorded in H.G. Dines' "The Metalliferous Mining Region of South-West England". The Allophane is also associated with spherules of Malachite and ferruginous Quartz. This is a rare Devonshire specimen from this little known copper mine on the edge of a Limestone Quarry near Bridestowe, about 9 km south-west of Okehampton. It is not certain which quarry the mine is near, as there are two near Bridestowe, and one a little further away. If only National Grid References had existed in the old days!
