This splendid example of crystallised Zanazziite on massive Rose Quartz is from the Ilha claim at Taquaral in the Jequitinhonha valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Zanazziite is a rare and complex hydrated calcium-magnesium-beryllium phosphate . The Ilha claim works a granite pegmatite located on a small island in the Jequitinhonha River, 3 km north of Taquaral and is the type locality for Zanazziite . It is named for Pier Francesco Zanazzi (1939-present), a crystallographer and Professor of Mineralogy at the University of Perugia, Italy. Rich clusters of micro-crystallised, brownish-green translucent Zanazziite are scattered over a matrix of delicate pink Rose Quartz.
