Small cabinet in size, this Willemite is an absolute classic. It is from the famous deposit at Berg Aukas in Grootfontein District, Namibia and displays the distinctive 'needle' form of highly elongated prismatic Willemite crystals. In fact, it shows several forms, as the specimen is 99 percent Willemite: ranging from compact radial aggregates; delicate star-burst sprays of glassy acicular crystals; and smaller orange coloured short prismatic sprays on the rear. It is the glassy acicular crystals which grab ones attention the most. The sprays reach almost 1 cm in diameter and are in remarkably fine condition considering its fragility and age. Each crystal is like a glass capillary tube and under magnification is mesmerizing - each spray like a star-burst. A few white rhombic Calcite crystals are sparsely scattered upon the surface. Ex Glyn Cunnick collection, it comes with an older (c. 1970s or 1980s) label which appears to document its fluorescent properties under UV. A wonderful Berg Aukas classic.
