Weloganite is a rare carbonate containing sodium, calcium, strontium, and zirconium and forms characteristic, distinctive stepped, pagoda-like crystals. This specimen is from its type locality at the Francon Quarry in central Montréal, Québec, Canada, a quarry which is now used to dump snow into during the winter months. Glassy, pale lemon yellow Weloganite crystals form intergrown columns to 2.4 cm tall set amongst steep pyramidal terminations of smoky Quartz. A minor patch of pinkish-red Sphalerite is embed in the base with a handwritten label glued to one side.
