Without any shadow of a doubt, this small cabinet specimen has to be termed a classic; black Tourmaline crystals with off-white milky Quartz from the Power's Farm area at Pierrepont, St. Lawrence County, New York, USA. This rich occurrence of Tourmaline was discovered in the 1890s when the farm was then named Ryland Crary Farm. We carefully apply the name Tourmaline to what would appear to be apparently Schorl. For probably over 100 years this Tourmaline was thought to be Schorl and hence many specimens are labelled as this. It is in fact Dravite or Uvite, both of these Tourmaline species being present at this locality and almost indistinguishable. The Tourmaline crystals are up to 1.7 cm wide and protrude from a matrix of massive Tourmaline pervaded with developed greyish-white Quartz crystals.
