Thortveitite is one of the few scandium-bearing minerals known, and is not only extremely rare, but is even rarer in good crystals. The world's best crystals come from a series of pegmatite localities in the Agder region of southern Norway. This off matrix, 4.7 cm long crystal, is not just very large, but is also well-formed. The termination is present and shows its monoclinic form very well. It comes from the Iveland area, although the specific pegmatite is not documented.
