This professional, well-illustrated publication is structured in three main chapters: The Nature of Gold; Golden Moments in Palaeontology; Set in Gold. The first of these introduces how gold is formed, what minerals contain gold, where it is found, how it is mined and the history of the most famous discoveries, including a section dedicated to gold in Germany. The palaeontology chapter introduces the world’s most important fossil-producing localities and the most valuable specimens found. The final chapter is dedicated to gemstones and how they are ‘Set in Gold’. Published over a decade ago, this book maintains a modern feel and provides a really useful background to this most valuable of metals.
