Tangdanite is a relatively new calcium copper arsenate sulphate hydroxide hydrate species, related to Tyrolite with which it looks very similar. Described in 2012, from a deposit in China, it is identical to the species formerly known as Clinotyrolite, which has been renamed. The Bartolomej mining field in Slovakia has produced some of the richest specimens of this mineral, and certainly so in Europe, and this large miniature specimen is a great example. Upon it, Tangdanite forms blue-green pearlescent flat-lying feathery sprays up to 5 mm in diameter along joint surfaces and fractures. A very nicely crystallized example of this unusual species - the only calcium copper arsenate sulphate mineral known to science.
