A very well formed crystal of dark, rich burgundy red Spessartine Garnet with flashes of lighter claret red, measuring to 1.5 cm displays an excellent crystal habit on a matrix of white Feldspar. This striking miniature is from the Skardu District of Pakistan. Much smaller Spessartine crystals to 4 mm are dotted over the Feldspar and protruding from this is a prominent prismatic crystal of black Schorl Tourmaline. This measures to 4.5 cm tall with vertically striated prism faces and a part termination. The termination is incomplete due to natural contacts and insufficient accommodation space. Several small Spessartine Garnets are also scattered over the Schorl's surface, adding texture and aesthetic.
