A dense cleaved mass of metallic blue-grey Galena encloses well-formed crystals of Spessartine garnet and Rhodonite in this miniature specimen from Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. This assemblage of species is unique to the complex geological deposit at Broken Hill. At one end of this specimen a partial, but well-formed Spessartine crystal displays strikingly bright, reflective crystal faces and a rich deep burgundy colour. This crystal reaches 1.2 cm across, but unfortunately has an etched, or included middle section, otherwise it would be magnificent. Around the edges of this Spessartine crystal are well-formed raspberry-red Rhodonite crystals to 2 to 3 mm in length. A larger, 8 mm long Rhodonite crystal is embedded within the Galena lower down. Classic material from Broken Hill, and a fine smaller example of Spessartine crystals. A small number '424' is penned on white paint at one end of the specimen, relating to a handwritten label from an unidentified collection.
