This big, showy, glassy, intensely smoky Quartz crystal is a classic from Tafelkop in the Goboboseb Mountains, Erongo Region, Namibia. Reportedly found in cavities in basalt, the crystals are some of the gemmiest Quartz you will ever encounter, and present extremely rich colours too, from smoky brown to amethystine purple. This 10 cm long, individual, off-matrix crystal has a Milky Quartz, inclusion-rich lower part and upwards along its back, but progresses upwards into a rich smoky-brown colour comparable to the best Swiss alpine Quartz. Its termination is an excellent sharp pyramid, but it does have a slight contact mid-way down one of the pyramidal faces, but its tip is pristine. Lower down, one pyramidal face is extended and the prism sides are stepped slightly where the base at one side is slightly sceptred into another part crystal, with the main crystal showing development of a bipyramidal form - as a 9 cm long doubly-terminated crystal. Ex Hettrich Collection, believed to have been obtained by him in 2014.
