This is an extremely fine 'simple' classic from Tsumeb mine. This most famous of mineral collecting localities is renowned for its wide range of colours and crystal forms presented by its Smithsonite - zinc carbonate. Often it is the brightly coloured copper-, cobalt- and cadmium-rich varieties that get seen, but it is surprisingly rare to see a really well-crystallized pure white or colourless Smithsonite, but that is exactly what we have here. Small cabinet in size, it presents excellent sharp rhombic crystals, individually reaching 1.4 cm on edge. These are world-class Smithsonite crystals and this pure bed, or plate, of aggregated Smithsonite crystals is an amazing example, made even more perfect by its subtle colour zonation - with white rims delineating the edges of the crystals. A really high class crystallized world Smithsonite.
