This magnificent botryoidal bluish-grey Smithsonite is so characteristic of the Broken Hill mines in New South Wales, Australia, known for its remarkably fine specimens. This small cabinet specimen has a platy matrix of sooty black Coronadite completely covered with botryoidal Smithsonite whose spherules average 1 cm in diameter. The colour is a fairly uniform light grey, but with a subtle bluish hue and the micro-terminations which cover the botryoidal surface produce a pleasing silky lustre. A great Smithsonite form Broken Hill, NSW.
