To me Shattuckite is a seriously underrated mineral. Not only is it a sumptumous beautiful blue colour, but it is rare too. It is a copper silicate hydroxide which, in the few deposits where it occurs in any significance, forms as the most eye-catching velvety smalt-blue to powder-blue crusts of acicular crystals lining cavities. Kandesei at Kaokoveld Plateau, Kunene Region, Namibia is perhaps the most famous, and significant of its occurrences and as show by this lovely small cabinet specimen its aesthetic qualities as a species and in combination with Quartz are spectacular.
