Although many mineral species were found at the quarry on Graves Mountain, it is Rutile for which it is rightly famous. This excellent large miniature divides into two distinct halves, a lower matrix of granular and massive burgundy black Rutile capped with a 3.3 x 3.6 x 3.3 cm lustrous twinned Rutile crystal. The back of the crystal is missing, but the display face exhibits four vertical prism faces and is terminated with a clearly defined re-entrant angle between faces delineating the twinning plane. The termination exhibits chevroned growth patterns and all complete faces have a mirror-like texture and lustre. A delightful Rutile from Graves Mountain.
