This fine small cabinet Rhodochrosite is from the world famous N'Chwaning mines in South Africa. The most striking feature is its lovely pale pink, to pale orange-pink colour, and glossy botryoidal form. The Rhodochrosite forms a crust overgrowing undifferentiated black manganese oxides and small colourless, bladed monoclinic Selenite (a variety of Gypsum) crystals are randomly scattered upon the surface of the Rhodochrosite. Some of the Selenite crystals are damaged, due to their softness, but most of the attention focuses on the beautiful pink Rhodochrosite which is very showy.
