Rhodochrosite has rapidly become one of the most collectible mineral species and for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, for collectors, there are only a limited number of places in the world where great Rhodochrosite crystals have been found, and amongst those the N'Chwaning mines in South Africa are arguably the most important. Discovered during the 1970s, the great manganese oxides deposits were found to occasionally contain crystal-lined pockets filled with gemmy red crystals. The number of pockets was not large and even less produced world-class specimens, but some were mind-blowingly great. This excellent, thin plate of extremely gemmy, lustrous, strawberry orange-pink scalenohedral Rhodochrosite crystals comes from those earlier finds. The largest individual crystal measures to 1.2 cm in length and nearly all are in top condition. Overall, their colour saturation is a little on the lighter side, but their lustre and shape are absolutely top notch. It comes with a custom-made Sunnywood acryllic display stand.
