Straddling the Czech-German border, the Cínovec/Zinnwald mining area is renowned for its rich diversity in mineral species but also its historical influence on the study of mineral deposits. This very distinctive form of Quartz, as distorted 'flattened' bipyramidal crystals, with cloudy smoky interiors and red (Hematite included) Eisenkiesel outer surfaces is a rare feature of the deposits at Cínovec/Zinnwald. This interesting cluster of at least four main 'groups' of doubly-terminated crystals has one small area of broken surfaces, otherwise it is a complete floater with no obvious point of attachment to host rock. The largest Quartz crystal reaches 9 cm in length.
