Often termed 'Grape Agate' this magnificent form of Quartz which first reached the mineral market place in 2017 from Sulawesi Island, Indonesia is neither Agate, or Chalcedony, but true crystallized Quartz. 'Mined' from a series of beach deposits it already appears that the supply is limited and better specimens are now getting hard to source. Dominated by purple-coloured finely crystallized spherulitic Quartz which has been proven by others to be genuine Amethyst, the green variety is much rarer and appears to be coloured by inclusions of clay minerals, possibly Celadonite. This spectacular, huge, 25 cm wide display specimen from this find has it all. From the exceptional sparkling chatoyancy, to both green and purple contrasting colours, and a dramatic 'leaf' of host rock cutting through the middle of the bunches of spherules providing a rarely seen geological context. The individual spherules reach 3 to 4 mm in diameter and can be seen both sparsely scattered across the surface of host rock but mostly as large 'bunches' in aggregates extending off from the matrix on both sides. This really is a very different specimen from this now famous find and is large enough to make an impressive statement. It comes with a custom-made display stand.
