This superb thumbnail of crystallized Proustite from the Schlema-Hartenstein District of Erzgebirgskreis in Saxony, Germany is in incredible condition. Proustite, a silver-arsenic sulphosalt, is often tarnished to opaque black, but this specimen, which has been carefully preserved, retains its natural bright blood-red colour. The Proustite crystals are attached to an almost unnoticeable granular Quartz matrix and forms divergent bladed crystals, some forming a semi-reticulated pattern. These crystals have some rough faces at their terminations, but these are entirely natural and not damaged, or fractured surfaces. When back-lit, the specimen is brilliant scarlet. A small, but elite-quality Proustite from Saxony. Formerly mounted to an acryllic display cube, this specimen is now stored loose.
