This is a very dense, pure, crystallized aggregate of Mimetite from the famous Tsumeb mine in Namibia. It has clearly come from a very rich pocket of oxidized ore within the mine and unusually shows a transition from different forms of Mimetite crystals. The main display surface - a crystal-lined pocket - shows cream coloured sheaf-like crystal sprays to 6 mm in length rising up from an orange resinous base on one side and dark brown, inclusion-rich massive Mimetite on the other. Beyond this, on the back of the specimen, the Mimetite is well-crystallized as intergrown pyramidally-terminated hexagonal prisms, pale straw yellow in colour - the classic Tsumeb form. The largest of these crystals is 7 mm in length but most are much smaller. There is some damage around the edges of the specimen, but it remains a very rich Tsumeb Mimetite. Ex Weyand collection.
