A superb Malachite stalagmite from the Mashamba West mine in the Katanga Copper Crescent, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The diameter of the stalagmite varies between 3.2 and 3.5 cm and its dark emerald-green radial structure can be studied at its cleaved base. The outer shell of the stalagmite is a network of inter-meshed lustrous plates of dark green Malachite, forming a scaly and hard outer crust. The structure is considered more likely a stalagmite, than stalactite, because the last 5.5 cm has drooped over during its final stages of growth; the latter having a bulbous, rounded end. This is a truly excellent example of this form of Malachite from the Mashamba West mine.
