Although not a particularly rare mineral on a scale of common to super-rare, Inesite tends not to crop up in old collections that frequently and this small cabinet specimen is a really fine example of the species. Inesite is anhydrous calcium manganese silicate and in this specimen from Hale Creek mine, near to Mad River Rock in Trinity County, California, forms candyfloss to creamy rose pink blocky, tabular crystals lining an open, elongated vug in a naturally vuggy matrix. The Inesite crystals measure up to 1 cm long and often terminate in asymmetric Roman sword tips.
