Hemimorphite is one of those minerals that can present in dramatically different forms, but invariably they are pretty, whether that is radiating sprays of colourless, glassy, wedge-shaped to bladed crystals, or knobbly botryoidal or stalactitic masses is a range of colours usually across greens and blues. 79 mine at Chilito, Dripping Spring Mountains, Gila Co., Arizona, USA is renowned for bubbly, sculptural specimens, usually in green and blue shades. Worked for specimens during the 1990s, blockages caused by flooding prevented access for a while, but collectors have been back since and small numbers of new specimens have trickled out during the 21st century. This very large miniature specimen has it all, from an alluring duck-egg blue colour, sumptuous rounded surfaces, to a texture that cries out to be held and admired. This is certainly a top-class piece and, being from the UK, I can imagine what this would be priced at if it was a historic 19th century specimen from Roughton Gill - it would certainly have another digit added. A really eye-catching Hemimorphite from this most famous of Arizonan localities. Ex Paul Matt.
