Long since closed, the famous Jeffrey mine at Asbestos, Estrie, Québec, Canada produced arguably the finest Grossular garnet specimens ever found, during the 1980s. Gemmy and with a rich sherry colour, their standout feature is their complex striated, or stepped, crystal faces, and perfectly balanced shape. Small cabinet in size, this thin, trimmed plate with a cut rear, presents a great display of sparsely scattered individual crystals to 1.3 cm across and clustered groups of crystals. There is some chipping to these crystals, but their layout, colour, lustre and overall presentation is really fine and Jeffrey mine Grossular specimens are just so desirable these days. Ex Francis Coune Collection (Belgium).
