Big Grand Pierre Creek is a tributary running into the Ohio River in Pope County, southern Illinois rather than a specific mine, but several mines are dotted alongside its course. Even so, few of those mines are noted for amber-coloured Fluorite, let alone amber-coloured crystals. This charming specimen comes from Arvid Pasto's famous Fluorite collection and although there is some chipping to the corners of a couple of the Fluorite cubes this is such an unusual locality piece and with such a rich intensity of colour that it is worth including. Forming a somewhat stepped aggregate of slightly glassy stepped crystals, the Fluorite is cut through by a thin veinlet of opaque white Baryte and sits on the whole upon a vein of colourless Quartz.
