Yaogangxian mine in Yizhang County, Hunan Province, China has produced many thousands of Fluorite specimens in a remarkable diversity of colours, shapes, forms and lustres. This miniature specimen, from Arvid Pasto's famous worldwide Fluorite collection is very unusual in its appearance. Presenting a single Fluorite crystal upon a small aggregate of parallel alligned white doubly-terminated Quartz crystals, the Fluorite is complex crystallographically and colour-wise. Representing what appears to be a modified cubo-octahedron, it is predominantly colourless to grey-white but with partial internal clouding. However, within the midst of this 'clouding' are many small areas of deep purple, most of which appear to be random, or structureless, but which add an air of intrigue. Additionally a small area of tiny Muscovite mica flakes are embedded within one edge of the Fluorite crystal.
