World famous for green octahedral Fluorite crystals, the discovery of this type of Fluorite at Riemvasmaak, in Northern Cape Province, South Africa was made in about 2004 with a wave of specimens hitting the mineral shows worldwide. At the time the supply seemed endless, but like many new finds in the mineral world, within a few years all traces were gone and the supply had dried up by about 2010. They are now considered classics, albeit relatively modern classics, but their combination of colour and sharp pyramidal/octahedral form are unique. Sometimes with Quartz, sometimes without, this cabinet-sized display specimen is without, but presents rather large crystals. The nicest crystal reaches 6 cm across (4.8 cm along each edge) and shows a perfect pyramid on its top and part of a pyramid below, with other smaller octahedral Fluorite crystals intergrown. To the otherside, this main crystal is attached to another group of large, part crystals. All of the crystals show a lovely pale leaf-green to watery green colour and translucent appearance.
