A large (8.5 cm on edge) single crystal of Fluorite with very typical colour for South Illinois. The crystal is not glassy, but has a matt surface appearance. However, with backlighting the internal colours are excellent - a yellow core surrounded by a prominent 4 mm wide outer purple zone. The lower edges of the crystal grade into the classic 'stepped' crystal surface and there are inclusions of Chalcopyrite. There is some damage - some small chips along the edges, one larger 'hole' and a tiny cleavage to the main corner - but overall it is the size, classic form and colour that makes this specimen. From Arvid Pasto's famous Fluorite collection (no. AEP690) and accompanied by an older (c.1980s) label simply stating South Illinois.
