This unusual substance from Tsumeb mine is what was once recorded simply as "Mineral GS1". It is now known by the name Fahleite, after Rolf Fahle (1943-), a Munich-based mineral dealer who specialized in minerals from Tsumeb mine, and who provided the original samples for analysis and study. Although its crystal structure is orthorhombic this hydrated calcium zinc iron arsenate is always seemingly none crystalline, as green conchoidally fractured masses. This thumbnail specimen of Fahleite is a fine example of this classic mineral, which has never been found anywhere else on Earth.
