An outstanding 6 cm tall crystal of blue coloured Elbaite Tourmaline of the variety known as Indicolite, from Sauda mine in the Gilgit District of Pakistan. This crystal is from a pocket discovered in September 2006 and has a shallow, trigonal pyramidal termination which contains shallow imprints of small Tourmaline crystals that once lined the cavity in which it grew. The crystal comprises of four distinct colour zones: an initial 3.5 cm intensely dark blue section which appears black; a 0.6 cm greyish-blue zone; a 1 cm transparent neon-blue zone and terminating a deep inky blue. The prism faces are vertically striated and have a bright glassy to silky lustre. The base of the Indicolite crystal is glued to a small cubic acrylic mount, the glue of which can easily be removed If desired. A gorgeous Indicolite Tourmaline of striking appearance.
