The remote Yinnietharra area in Upper Gascoyne Shire, Western Australia is regarded as having produced some the world's best Dravite crystals. The large, perfectly formed crystals, were usually removed from matrix, so this specimen is nice in showing the geological context in metamorphic mica schist. The doubly-terminated 38 mm long glossy brown Dravite crystal is actually attached to several other parallel crystals all of which sit on top of the contrasting pale coloured layered mica schist. Much larger individual crystals are known from Yinnietharra, but arguably, the combination of glossy brown crystals on cream coloured matrix makes this specimen stand out more. The crystal shows sharp faces and sits well for display. A very fine, dramatic Dravite from Australia.
