Detailed information
Published bilingually in German and Slovak in 1983 this now rare first edition of the “Golden Book of Mining” is a translation, reproduction and interpretation of a valuable manuscript dating to 1764. In that year the Holy Roman Emperor Joseph and his younger brother Archduke Leopold (who later became Hungarian Kings) undertook a two-week study trip to Banská Štiavnica, Kremnica and Banská Bystrica producing notes, mining maps and drawings of the mines, towns and equipment. Their work provides a picture of the scope of mining in central Slovakia during the time of its greatest prosperity – the 18th century. Illustrated with many reproduced colour maps, mine plans, sketches of smelting works and drawings of the towns from the 18th century. Hardback, used, and in very good condition.
