This small cabinet specimen of pale sky blue Celestine is made particularly aesthetic by the contrasting salmon orange underlying matrix; the two colours compliment one another yet act as perfect foils. The matrix where broken open has an almost porcelaneous texture and forms several stacked, slightly rotated thick plates cemented by a drusy coating of gemmy Celestine crystals, each to a few millimetres. The matrix appears brecciated followed by a phase of cementation. It’s a terrific example of Celestine from the Hammam-Zriba mine in the Zaghouan Governorate of Tunisia and so well priced at $120.
