This nicely crystallized Cornish Cassiterite from Stenalees near St. Austell has a fascinating but slightly faded old label attached. This label provides an unusual amount of scientific information, such as the hardness and density of Cassiterite. Several old China Clay pits are situated in the vicinity of Stenalees, but the age of this label (late 19th to early 20th century) suggests that this specimen pre-dates many of them. Ex Bruce Grant Collection, no. 681, and ex 'AFS' Collection (Andrew Ford Seager, 1920-2000).
