The ancient silver-mining town of St. Andreasberg in the Harz Mountains of Lower Saxony, Germany is probably the original locality for 'poker chip' Calcite crystals. Now considered iconic specimens, the colour-zoned sandwiched crystals with opaque white outer edges and translucent centres can reach a significant size, making them fine display pieces. This smaller cabinet-sized plate features a good range of sizes for these crystals, the largest reaching over 2.5 cm across and many standing upright. Ex Francis Coune Collection and ex Philadelphia Academy of Sciences.
