I am really hoping that I don't slip up on the provenance of this piece as it is from a famous west Cumbrian locality in Beckermet mine, near Egremont. Labelled as from Haile Moor mine it should be noted that the two mines lie within a mile of each other and were at times worked together and most species online tend to be attributed to Haile Moor mine. However, the Banana Slide Fault was in the Beckermet part of the Florence-Beckermet section of workings. These distinctive Hematite-included prismatic, 'nailhead' Calcite crystals were found along the side of the Banana Slide Fault in about 1971 and became instant classics. The largest crystal on this piece reaches 4.7 cm in length and has just a very slight contact to one corner of its termination. It has many other crystals of variable length all showing of this unusual crystal habit.
