This old-time Cornish Calcite comes from the F. Williams Collection with a date of 1957 written alongside it. Although not specified on its original typed label it is quite distinctive of the Levant mine at that time. Its massive Quartz veinstone matrix is coated on two sides by unusually complex stepped rhombic crystals, individually reaching 1.5 cm across. These range in colour from pale to slightly dark cream with a slightly silky lustre across their stepped faces. Under magnification the texture of these crystals is sublime, looking like waxy rhombs have been poured across the earlier larger rhombic crystals and tiny, microscopic Pyrite crystals are sparsely scattered upon their surface too. There is very light scuffing to one of the Calcite crystals, but this is hardly visible, even under the microscope. A lovely older Cornish Calcite.
