Botallackite, named after the Cornish mine near Land's End where it was first found, is a rare copper chloride hydroxide mineral. In the early 21st century a stunning new discovery was made in Cornwall at Cligga mine on the north coast. The richness of these specimens both in terms of the quality of the crystals and overall coverage is phenomenal - best of species by a mile. This large cabinet specimen is one of the finest specimens recovered with an area 8 x 7 cm completely covered in densely aggregated wafer thin bladed Botallackite crystals which display a wonderful blue-green colour and silky, almost plastic-like, lustre. When densely aggregated this colour becomes much darker, but under magnification and illumination under a microscope these crystals are beautiful. A staggering Cornish Botallackite, instantly a modern day classic.
