Good Bornite crystals are not common and this specimen displays a fine example as a single 1.5 x 1 x 1 cm compound crystal covered in scaley faces with a characteristic metallic iridescence of peacock blue, reddish-purple and gold. This fine crystal sits against a 4 cm long crude scalenohedral Calcite coated in brassy iridescent micro-crystals of Pyrite on top of a matrix of crystallised glassy Quartz. The Calcite is double terminated, although the tip of its upper termination is slightly cleaved. A lovely miniature from the Dzhezkazgan mining district in the Karaganda Region of Kazakhstan. The specimen comes mounted on a square clear acrylic base.
