Morganite is a pink gem variety of Beryl and most often forms wide flat prismatic crystals. This quite large individual crystal is from Espírito Santo, a state in eastern Brazil. It is virtually a floater, terminated at both ends and with good development of the short prism sides. Its crystal faces are not gemmy, but with the appearance of being naturally etched, particularly the prism faces - the flat terminations being slightly frosted, but less etched. Inclusions of Muscovite mica are common upon the surface and inside the crystal, which is probably how the crystal was attached to matrix originally. The main body of the crystal is translucent - inclusion-rich, and with a very pale pink colour. This a fine, typically example of Morganite and its characteristic crystal form, reasonably priced to reflect its slightly etched appearance and pale colour.
