This delightful small cabinet specimen is a beautiful example of the iconic Baryte-Malachite combination for which Shangulowé mine in the Katanga Copper Crescent is rightly renowned. Indeed, this mine has the reputation of having produced the finest Baryte-Malachite combination specimens anywhere in the DR Congo, most of which were collected during the late 1990s. On this specimen dark forest green glossy botryoidal Malachite forms the matrix, upon which striking colour-zoned glassy coffin-shaped Baryte crystals protrude. The Baryte crystals are extremely well-formed and transition from colourless to white at their base up to beige brown at their tips. They range from 0.5 to 3 cm in length, and average over 1 cm. A very fine DRC Baryte.
