A prominent 1.7 cm wide well-formed deep burgundy coloured Almandine crystal sits upon a rough-textured Quartz var. Rock Crystal matrix. The Almandine crystal is not gemmy, either externally, or internally, but has lovely shape and is large for this occurrence at Codera Valley in Lombardy, Italy. An old handwritten label accompanying the specimen looks to date from at least the 1960s and it was believed to have been in the collection of Prof. Dr. H. Siegmund in Vienna. This is a fine older piece from one of the classic garnet-producing sites in northern Italy.
