Although not from the Type Locality, this magnificent sculptural aggregate of large Wulfenite crystals is from the neighbouring Mežica (Miess) area across the border in Slovenia and is a truly magnificent Wulfenite. Presenting a sumptuous rich orange colour and classy resinous lustre, the thick tabular crystals present the famous, and remarkable epitaxial overgrowth of smaller, bipyramidal crystals, producing the effect of mini meat tenderizers. The larger, tabular crystals, reach a staggering 4 cm across, but exposed terminated edges reach to 2.5 cm in length which is still impressive, but more so is their perfection and lack of noticeable damage which is often seen in a soft and brittle mineral such as Wulfenite. The crystals are also colour-zoned, with duller cream-colour faces from one direction and glossy orange from the other side. As it is rotated in the light the reflections flash-by across the many different angles of crystal surfaces, producing a stunning effect. This stands out as an absolute world-class Wulfenite, and more so the fact that it is from the classic old-time European occurrence, although probably collected in more recent times.
